Define “normal” because what is normal in one culture is not normal in another…
The program, started roughly 10 years ago under then president Bush, was fairly revolutionary. Basically, it was guaranteed student loan forgiveness after 10 years if you worked in a public service job, the military, or qualified position in a non-profit/government agency.
It’s more then just the fact they’re ending it, there is talk of ending the program before a majority of the people who have been benefiting from it qualify, while not including any sort of grandfathering system. Over 400,000 people may suddenly be told that their loans will no longer be covered, despite ten years of being promised that.
The icing on this shit cake is the following.
“Funding for college work-study programs would be cut in half, public-service loan forgiveness would end and hundreds of millions of dollars that public schools could use for mental health, advanced coursework and other services would vanish under a Trump administration plan to cut $10.6 billion from federal education initiatives…
The administration would channel part of the savings into its top priority: school choice. It seeks to spend about $400 million to expand charter schools and vouchers for private and religious schools.”
Another day, another disappointment.
