This! I’d take “Kickstart My Heart” and “Love Bites” over “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Rape Me” any day of the week.

Uh-huh. So what about all the new rock bands (and I mean actual rock bands, not the alternative/electropop bands that are considered rock because they have people playing instruments) that are all moody and depressing? I don’t think this is an example of “other subgenres needed to get with the times,” as much as it is one of “grunge made it trendy to be angry and depressed, and rock has not recovered from that ever since then.”@ILoveMyoozik

I’d love to see a revival of, if not cock rock explicitly, then some form of rock that’s actually fun as opposed t just being moody and depressing. And keep in mind that I have depression, yet I tire of hearing artists sing about it. Hell, I prefer the fun side of rock; when I’m down, I don’t want to listen to music that makes me feel worse, I want to listen to music that gets me pumped up, dammit.
Of course, it seems like part of the reason why is that anyone who tries to make a fun & energetic rock song these days quickly gets labeled as “pop” by fans and/or music stations and shoved off onto the pop stations, or otherwise gets pushed in the direction of making more pop (or pop-like) music.
