It’s fine for a kids movie to be a little dumber than an adult movie, as long as it isn’t cynical or treats it’s audience like they’re idiots.

I hate how for something to be adult-focused media, it’s just filled with sex and violence.
 
Like, shit. This is what kids like, not adults. I for one don’t enjoy seeing people do sex jokes on-screen.

Trust me, you can make something R with just violence alone, though you can add gore and swearing if you want.

I actually did a whole essay two years ago about what constitutes movie ratings. It’s… really dumb.

All it took to push Frozen from a G-rating to PG was one completely unnecessary throwaway penis size joke. As far as I’m aware, they added that in there because kids are more likely to see PG movies than G movies, given that from the study I did, the highest grossing movies per year on average have been PG-13, then PG, then R, then G.

And yet somehow The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which literally had a song called “Hellfire” about the villain’s extreme lust for the heroine and how he would kill her if she didn’t accept him, among many other things, still got rated G.

Also remember that back then, the Indian Jones movies had things like a Nazi’s face melting off, a guy’s head exploding, and a child slave having his still-beating heart ripped out of his chest, and they still had a PG rating.

See, this is why I think movies should be rated based on how mature their themes are and how well those themes are delivered, as opposed to whether or not they have swear words or sex jokes.

imo the content of the movie rather then themes should be the one to decide the rating.
 
Stuff like swearing or sex jokes making the movie go form PG to R is stupid, buti feel like if a movie has a lot of sex/nudity, or violence/gore, then an R-Rating is justified.

I like PG movies more than PG-13.

im pretty sure the majority of PG-13 movies are just PG rated movies with one or two “unkid-friendly” moments added on to it, because studios think that PG-13movies are more profitable then a normal PG movie.
