That last sentence explains it, really. With the actual ‘rents as super-rare non-speaking background roles, her relationship with Tia is the one you actually see in the show and so end up wanting more of.
 
And do see her with them now and again in fanwork, though. If you enter “Twilight Sparkle” and “Momlestia,” you get 252. While that’s definitely a clear majority, it’s not quite a million-to-one majority.

If the search is simplified to “twilight velvet,filly”, we obtain 152 results, and the vast majority are relevant (we have to take into account we’ll see some images of Twi’s mother as a filly). However, yes: there are few images featuring Twi and her mom. Maybe if the show focuses a bit on Twi’s parents in some future episode…

I agree, fanfics are even worse. Where in almost every fanfic Twilight is somehow Celestia’s or somehow Luna’s biological daughter. Or she’s an orphan.

seriously, searching “filly twilight, twilight velvet” returns only 31 images
