Guys how about this, Twilight was transformed into this monster, because she thought Harmony wasn’t a good thing, she saw Canterlot High lose, and thought ‘they don’t have the harmony to win, and they are nice people’, but she saw Crystal Prep’s wins, which were from legitimately working together, not saying Canterlot didn’t have team-work, and thought ‘this is what harmony turns you into’.

It doesn’t matter if she knew the magic contained inside was harmonious, heck, the Prep 5, they had corrupted versions of the elements, and since Twilight saw those more than she saw the true elements, she had a skewed perspective of harmony and it’s virtues, and she never got a chance to see Friendship appear, she may have absorbed it from any residue of Twilight’s magic in the portal, but she never saw a display of it, in fact she missed some other displays as well like Generosity and maybe Laughter.

To her, the elements were forced versions of what they actually were, thus with the power of the elements in her hand, her mind made it real.

[…]and amplification of their worst traits.
This is why Twilight transforming into something evil doesn’t work. With Sunset and Luna, you’ve got lust for power and envy, respectively. With Human Twilight, we never see any bad traits. Her curiosity is mostly played as innocent, and whenever her spectrometer steals magic, it’s always acting on its own. So it doesn’t make sense that she would suddenly do a 180 and want all the magic, regardless of the cost.
Also, when Sunset and Luna transformed, it was of their own accord and initiative. When Twilight transformed, not only was releasing the magic not her idea, but she has a look of terror on her face, and is screaming for help as she gets pulled into the magic.
If anything, Twilight’s worst trait is that she goes to Crystal Prep and has jerks for classmates and Abacus Cinch for a principal.

Well, she wasn’t really good or evil. She was amoral. If there were no students around her, and if opening portals didn’t really damage the human dimension at all, she still would’ve had just as much fun opening the portals around her. Immoral/evil people actively harm others.

Heck, if nobody cared about the school getting destroyed and people ran away like they should’ve, she wouldve been nearly harmless. (The magical creatures would be an annoyance though.)

I think you’re going out of your way to help her out here. By actively tearing apart the human world, human Twilight did actually cross the line into evil territory, but like Sunset and Luna, that was not all there was to her. Still, she let her personal desires cloud her judgment, and her lack of courage allowed her to be manipulated, and all those combined negative thoughts and intentions she had when she opened her device led to the magic she stole being given that twisted form. Sunset tried to warn her, but she ignored those very serious objections.

The point is, unleashing magic that could unravel the human world was her responsibility, and excuses don’t alter that. But to her credit, she was more than ready to change.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Ahem goys, remember one thing: Midnight Twilight wasn’t what we could call explicitly evil, her main desire was to travel to Equestria and learn/master all them magic in it, she just didn’t care anymore about the human world.
Remember that her biggest desire was to go to an idependent study program, mostly because studying was the only joy in her life, as she had no friends because the bast majority of human beings she knew outright despised her for being smarter than her, and even the principal only saw her as a pawn.

In fact if you look at her face, she didn’t look actively trying to kill/brainwash everyone like Sunset Satan did, she was euphoric, having too much fun opening more and more portals to Equestria, a real evil villain would have tried to blast her schoolmates and her principal in retaliation for all the stuff they made her go throught, besides forcing her to use her magic against her will.

Her form here pretty much confirmed what I’ve been saying all along. Every time you see a dark transformation like this, it results in suppression of a person’s better self, and amplification of their worst traits. It’s actually a very consistent theme in this show.

This also goes into Celestia’s (brief) explanation of dark magic, where it’s all the same magic, but the intent is turned toward destruction and selfish purposes - like Midnight Sparkle’s intentions here to “understand” magic, at the cost of pretty much her entire world crumbling away into the Equestrian world.
