The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Like the SR-71, B-48, and F-117, it was a single-purpose aircraft that performed its one purpose amazingly well. Unlike the SR-71, B-58, and F-117, its purpose evaporated shortly before it was ready for production. As anearbyanimal said, had it just been made five years earlier, we would probably have had a small fleet of them. Much as we did with its slightly older, somewhat smaller, but otherwise fairly similar cousin the B-58.

Thread Starter - The voring hour.

there was also that tragic accident in test flight.  
to sum it all up, some kind of action caused a F-104 starfighter to loose control, hit the wing of the XB-70 and the two planes fell to earth

She wasn’t a failure. The XB-70 was kept from production because of ICBMs and better SAMs. It was designed for the purpose of long range nuclear strikes and ICBMs were easier and cheaper to produce. Had it been started hal a decade earlier we would have 10 I believe. Now there is only one, best plane is one of a kind.
