I always thought a human Twilight would be from an Eastern Asian country, due to her eye shape. The only member of the Mane 6 I could picture dark skinned would be Rainbow Dash.

There’s a massive double standard there. Because almost every time I’ve said that I didn’t really imagine her as black, I’m always a “racist pig”.
 
No matter how I word it, it’s always the same… probably the reason why I just flat out don’t bother with humanisations, purple is the correct colour for Twilight.

So if I drew all of the Mane 6 as black with the except of one, would black folks give me grief for making one of the humanized ponies white? Just because a va is white does not mean the character should be white.
 
Here is a tidbit: the girl Penny from Inspector Gadget in the 80s is voiced by Cree Summer aka Freddie of a Different World, Number 5 from Kids Next Door and Foxxy Love from Drawn Together. Penny Gadget was blonde and blue eyes voiced by a woman of color. Cut your BS and deal…

I think that browns, especially darker browns, contrast with purple really badly, and so I could see why, for aesthetic reasons, someone wouldn’t like a dark skinned Twilight or Rarity, but they seem to be the most frequently made dark skinned, for some reason.
