It probably does arise from that, though.
I thought that was just a result of certain UK dialects dropping the leading H sound, so you’d end up with “a historic” -> “*a istoric” and then correct that to “an istoric”.
Also, 1 respect point awarded for jargon density.
Hm. Well, English has the irregular “an historic.” But I don’t know if I’d call stopping winter an historic awful idea.
