Her backstory and origin are ambigous, not her current state of being.
To reference Samurai Jack, both Starswirl and Jack’s father thought Chrysalis and Aku, respectively, started out as a cursed tree. But Jack’s father was incorrect about Aku, and accidentally released a sentient immortal shapeshifting terror.
Whether her sentience was born from the tree like Exdeath from Final Fantasy, or started out as something else before she became a dormant tree of darkness, is still anyone’s guess.
True, but the IDW backstory for Chrysalis is pretty ambigious. She could of been alive in some form or another before the tree, all we know is she emerged as a changeling queen.
I’m sorry to disapoint you, but Chrysalis has another backstory right now, traking down your theory…
That doesn’t explain the wings.
