that works too.
I honestly took it as more of a “means of insulting the person, but doing so in a sincere manner so they can’t be mad at you; only at themselves”-based manner, because I imagined it being said in Fluttershy’s voice.
Because the point of the image is that arguing on the internet is fruitless. I should clarify, I don’t think the image is sarcastic. But rather that what is said is a sarcastic jab at the practice of internet arguing
Well we can argue each other’s sides and get absolutely nowhere, since what we think isn’t what’s debated, but what the facts behind the image are. Who would randomly come on the booru to post an image that may or may not be sarcastic?
I must hae misspoke because my whole point was that it was not a waste of time.
Moreover, I think the artist just picked the image without regards to the pony beyond she being the cute one so sarcasm (or naivete) from her is funnier
It’s Fluttershy: She’s never sarcastic unless Discorded.
Any other pony, your statement applies to, but for her it’s meant as an image where you sort of come to the realization of “wow, that really WAS a waste of time…” afterwards. Not “beating the odds”.
the image’s implication is that it is a futile struggle. Shy is clearly being sarcastic.
Because anything can be played off as being hilarious, and make it so solely by how it’s played off.
Including plenty of the content he uses that’s based on modern content obtained from other resources that ignore general racial undertones by playing off most things in a universal manner.
The “chocolate helicopter” isn’t ‘cause he’s black, it’s ‘cause he’s fat, which is fine to joke about in modern society.
@Draco_2k
I had a vague feeling you were making a reference to DasBoSchitt’s vid, hence my comment. :)
@Whatevs
Beating the odds would mean that the end-result is likely that you would LOSE the internet argument. The image says that you WON, so you didn’t “beat” the odds…
Well, haven’t you noticed that the Idiot Box series is pretty racist collectively?
wat
That video always makes me laugh because it’s racist and messed up but it’s collectively racist so I can’t say the black guy wasn’t funny.
Well, okay then.
@ShimmeringStallion
I SAID PURPLE STUFFFFF!!!11
Nope, I’m taking the Sunny D.
BOTH kinds!
I have done tests and I do cause dissonance. You see ai introduce facts that transfer culpability under their logic.
And people do feel guilty. That is what white guilt is
But you can’t cause dissonance by reinforcing the logic they already subscribe to. You’d do the opposite.
Like Feynman said: theory is nothing without practice; even though I would advise against conducting actual tests.
I disagree. If they agree with my opponent it will cause them cognitive dissonance because they lose the moral indignation that so moved them.
Moreover, audiences tend to be of mixed opinion so it relieves any guilt those sympathetic to my side may have.
Assuming the audience is sympathetic to your opponent’s view, the effect on them will be the same. Possibly worse. You are, after all, validating their logic.
@ShimmeringStallion
Purple stuff, if you know what’s good for you.
@Whatevs
shoves them both aside
… Ah, sorry, left my drink here.
takes it
Carry on!
>implying I am trying to convince my opponent
You argue for the audience.
Not big enough to be the killing blow. In fact, you’re not even taking the offensive. Your logic is correct, but it’s not going to work in practice because it’s not an obvious rebuttal, and will likely be taken completely seriously.
I’d advise using it in an actual argument with an actual racist and seeing the outcome for yourself, but that’s kind of a terrible advice, so I won’t.
