They didn’t start yet.
I want to say something, but I’m too busy watching the gif. It’s surprisingly hypnotic.
Heh. Celestia based episode titled “Day Break.”
It’s always amusing to see hilarious in hindsight comments in older images.
In all fairness, Celestia’s not the only one they do it to, but she does get hit with that particular stick more often than anypony else, since for most of the others you can point to when they’re doing it and when they’re not. And the handful of other characters who mostly exist to move the story along tend to be minor bad guys like the Mane-iac.
We know Cadance better than we know Celestia, and that seems a bit weird to me.
Because the writers don’t see Celestia as a character, they see her as a prop, a tool, a means to an end. They never stop to ask “Why is Celestia doing this, what does this make her feel, and how does this affect her future decisions”, they just think “how do we get Discord to hunt down Tirek, or for Twilight to try to save the Crystal Empire on her own? Celestia said so, of course”.
I’m a little baffled as to why she hasn’t already gotten a focus episode, personally.
My suggestion for a “Celestia is forced to take a brief vacation” episode called “Day Break” still stands.
I swear, I’d be so down with that, it’d put a big dent in my little nitpicks.
Smaller than an ant’s dick.
Yeah, but what are the odds of that?
She’s the Princess of the Sun, she can make time.
Y’now, if they decide to write Celestia like an actual character who cares about her former student and wants to help her put her life back together, instead of a means to an end.
…Ah, okay. Let me rephrase.
Sunset Shimmer doesn’t have a diploma or anything, so in order for her tutelage to mean anything to anypony other than her, she would have to get Princess Celestia herself to vouch for her. Is her royal highness really going to have time for this?
Nah, the point is just to draw attention to the fact that this statement may upset Celestia.
Or it would, were she allowed to have emotions.
Is there an actual sadlestia.jpg I should recognize, or…?
>And her tutelage means what? She didn’t even stick around long enough to get a degree.

I suspect it’s easier for you to take your friends for granted if you aren’t used to not having any.
There’s no indication that a “celestial cutie mark” canonically marks you as a special pony of destiny. There’s nothing to indicate it means anything. For all anypony else knows, it could just mean your special talent is staring at things that you shouldn’t stare at.
And her tutelage means what? She didn’t even stick around long enough to get a degree.
And yes, most people don’t stick together their entire lives, but it’s my understanding that they also don’t tend to wind up losing touch with all their friends all at once unless they move out of town, and the friends one has often introduce one to new people who could potentially become new friends.
Except if you’re from a world of multicolored beings were friendship is magic! :P
In answer to your question, certainly, but I’m not the clingy sort.
Sunset doesn’t just have her horn, she was the only other prodigious student of Celestia in this era. She’s one of the very few who possess a celestial cutie mark, and the only one other than the High Princess herself with one pertaining to the Sun. She’s a long way off from “starting over from scratch”.
What does she have in the human world? A few newly formed sentimental connections, and that’s about it. People move on, they make new friends. They’re rarely chained to the same group for their entire lives.
She’s already started building a life in the human world. If she goes back to Equestria, what’s she really got there, other than her horn? She’ll have to start from scratch, alone.
Do you have friends, by the way?
She won’t.
Thinking on it, I’d have to say I don’t agree with that. Friends and acquaintances are great, but they’re not the exclusive deciding factor when it comes to where someone goes and what they do with their life.
Sunset has friends at CHS now, but they’re still just high school friends. Shimmer is a unicorn of Equestria, and a uniquely powerful one. There is far more need for her abilities back in her real home.
Personally, I’ll be very disappointed if she doesn’t return some day.
Well, if her parents were still around, presumably Celestia would have contacted them after the first movie. That they haven’t showed an interest in getting their daughter back would seem to indicate either death or a parting of ways of some sort. Or that they just don’t care at all, which would definitely explain a few things about Sunset.
@441TheSecond
No, that’s Applejack.
@Mojo
As of Rainbow Rocks, I can’t see why she’d go back to Equestria. Other than maybe Twilight and an even bigger maybe in Celestia, who is there in Equestria that she’d want to see? The important people in her life are all from Canterlot High. In fact, if she ever wound up back in Equestria, I suspect her first priority would be to return to the human world, because she considers that her home.
WAIT, APPLEJACK CAN AFFORD A SMARTPHONE?!
Certainly she could use more backstory, but that’s not what this specific story is about. Those are real questions however I can still see why Sunset Shimmer as she is now would decide to remain in the human world.
Her parents are deeeeeead.
(That is a good question. Where are her parents? What do they think their daughter is doing? Do they even care?)
