I can understand where you’re coming from.
However, the particular entity I was thinking of was the ‘Bloodthirster’, a terrifying daemon from the 40k universe (often standing over 30 feet tall and capable of tearing a battle tank in half without breaking stride), which is pretty much the epitome of close combat masters, and any magical attack on it is nullified on a 2+ in game.
Such an entity would certainly need to be toned down for use in a show like Friendship Is Magic (there’s no reasoning with these creatures, they’re only interested in killing things, and will even fight each other if no enemy is present).
Here’s a link to the (ridiculously expensive) Forge World version of the model of said daemon.

Simple. Physical strength.
Unicorns can use magic to attack, but pegasi can control weather andfly really fast with their magic, and earth ponies have enhanced strength (Maud is good example).
Magic takes many form in Equestria and casting spells is just one of it, and one cannot be immunite to attack just because magic enhance it. It is like saying that enhanced sword what is several times sharper would not work as well as normal sword just because enemy is resistant to magical attack.
Well, no.
But that was not what I said.
How would the cast cope with an adversary if any magic they could call on was totally useless?
An opponent immune to ‘Rainbow power’, or any other form of power.
The idea originated from an interest in 40k (as if my name here wasn’t a giveaway).
One of the Daemon gods in that game despises magic in all forms, and any of his followers can dispel any form of magical attack on a 2+ in game. (For those not in the know, the game uses 6 sided dice).
So they’re not completely immune.
Writing a story with the ponies dealing with an adversary like that could make for an interesting plot.
Lacking magic doesn’t make you immune to magic.
That said, we haven’t really seen what he can do in a pitched battle. He had one skirmish against Prime, started a broader fight in the city, and then snuck away to figure himself out.
How would the ponies cope against an opponent who didn’t have magic, and was completely immune to the effects of magical attack?
