I would suggest that there is a hoarding habit mixed with a completionist mindset involved. People naturally want to have sets of things, and in the case of merchandise that set is completely ill-defined and never ending. MLP is nasty in that sense as there are six main characters, so if you have some then you may as well put the effort in to get the rest right? There is also bragging rights involved, which no one is immune too. That’s why I have a few bits of merchandise anyway. To get a collection like this I’d think it would be those things cranked to 11 plus a deliberate choice to become a collector.

In my experiences, it’s not uncommon for a brony to have a lot of brushables, especially now with the high quality Funkos.

i haven’t spent 1$ on pony merch…  
probably because i have no use for it.

I never understood the mindset of having THIS MUCH merch.
 
I mean, I’m as big of a fan as the next brony, but I don’t see a point in blowing thousands of dollars on merchandise. I’ve got a bunch of Funkos, some custom brushables and other figurines, and a handful of shirts, but that’s about it.

Somehow, I get the feeling that this person likes ponies.
