Or it could be argued Twilight only kept her horn because she was an alicorn, had she been a unicorn, she’d have lost it. They change pony tribe (So I’d guess AJ would lose her Earth Pony Str. Bonus), but Twilight is alright a cross-trained Alicorn, so her Pegasus part was what changed to Bat-Pony, just like Rainbow and Fluttershy

Also to consider, he has teeth that can, at the very least, bite through Ruby, one of the hardest gems there it (a 9 on the MOHS scale of mineral hardness, making it harder than steel, where diamonds are a 10), meaning he can bite through most anything, and, given that volcanoes and lava flows, in which Dragons can apparently thrive, release an abundance of toxic gases, there could also be a resistance or even immunity to airborne toxins.

Welp, good luck with that. When they need to pick up their shattered teeth off the ground, Spike will help them despite the fact that they tried to bite through his scales. Which are tough enough to endure lava.
 
And there’s also the fact that in the episode Inspiration Manifestation, he melted an iron lock with his fire breath. Melting point of wrought iron? 2700-2900 degrees Fahrenheit.
 
And the fact that in the episode Spike at your Service, he lifted huge and heavy boulders for Rainbow Dash’s mock stunt with relative ease.
 
…I’m surprised they don’t take Spike with them more often to combat ancient evils and such.
