Well, I really fucking pity people who are so jaded that they believe that every single leader ever is a conniving backstabbing monster, specially in a world of fiction.

Some people just can’t accept the idea of true benevolence in someone in a position of power. They’re convinced there’s an angle, a scheme, an ulterior motive. If there isn’t one, then they’ll make it. It’s not that they fear being inferior, just the opposite; in their eyes, such deception is superior.
And at this point, I’m not sure if I’m talking about ponies, humans, or both.
Is a benevolent ruler who just wants everybody to be the best that they can be with a bit of a prankster edge so fucking impossible to understand? Is everybody so afraid of being inferior that they need to bring down all those whom can be perceived as superior?

Molestia was always meant to be a joke. Even Pinkie Pony just viewed him as someone competing with her for porn views.
The main difference is that people who like Celestia for who she is are outnumbered by two by the people who like the negative interpretations of her.
Why a sociopath who can only derive pleasure from the misfortune of others, a serial rapist who sees the entire world as a piece of meat (And don’t say “Molestia is not a rapist! JJ never made her rape blar de blar”, pretty much every time I see the fandom at large deploy Molestia it’s always as a rapist), and a tyrant who rules with an iron fist more approachable than regular Celestia?
