Description

Spike: *sobs* Why are they doing this to me? I make nachos for a party and they go to waste, and now I caused the Breezies to go off course! Why does life have to be so hard for a little dragon like me? Why are they doing this? Why?

GOKAAAAI... SILVER!
What I don’t get is why people act like this is suddenly a new phenomenon that’s been exclusive to Season 4. He’s been the butt of jokes in the previous 3 seasons, and no one’s ever complained about it there (well, except Spike at Your Service, but let’s not get into that one).

OK, let’s go back to the beginning, here. Background Pony #A68F said “Every one of Spike’s scenes this season has made him the butt monkey.” Background Pony #ABCE listed four episodes where that’s not true. Then you come along and say Background Pony #ABCE listed only “1-2 episodes” to support his position, and that “basically the rest of the season” has portrayed him as the “butt monkey”. Those two statements right there are what I dispute. Not whether you’re a Spike fan or are arguing for the existence of “Spikeabuse”, not whether Spike is the butt of a joke more often than other characters, just two simple statements where you say that Background Pony #ABCE listed only two episodes in his comment and that Spike’s been the butt of jokes pretty much the rest of the season.

So, out of “Princess Twilight Sparkle, Part 1”, “Princess Twilight Sparkle, Part 2”, “Castle Mane-ia”, and “Power Ponies”, which ones only portray Spike as the butt monkey, and thus shouldn’t count among the episodes Background Pony #ABCE lists as evidence that Spike has had scenes where he’s not treated as the butt monkey?

““I was very clear on what my point was: Pointing out how saying that ‘Spike gets as much shit as every other character’ (as in, for example, gratuitous violence with no reason other than a quick giggle here and there) is a false statement. A lie.[](#comment_5316c05063687271411b0000)

A reasonable point to make, and one I might even agree with. Saying that “basically the rest of the season” aside from “1-2 episodes” treats Spike as such? That, I’m not buying.

He mentioned instances of him being hurt as part of the plot in the same manner other characters are (which doesn’t even happen much), such as qhen he went to find Twi’s friends so they could help her, and that isn’t what any of this is about in the first place. So yes, he didn’t list four. A better example would’ve been him being thrown against the window when she teleported from her dive, or getting trampled by Pinkie in TaC.

But no, as I said, Im no fan of Spike or even care about the whole Spikeabuse crap. That’s just what the most soft-hedaed part of this fanbase apparently chooses to assume by jumping into conclussions whenever someone points out something they don’t like about this character, merely because its become “trendy” to call out and hate on certain groups (like Spike fans), so jumping the bandwagon is their “safe” heaven, since they know others will jump in and save them should they write themselves into a corner.

I was very clear on what my point was: Pointing out how saying that “Spike gets as much shit as every other character” (as in, for example, gratuitous violence with no reason other than a quick giggle here and there) is a false statement. A lie.

Nothing more, nothing less.
Anything else you want to discuss, do so with someone who cares about the whole thing. I just provided an objective statement. Spike does end up in the butt of a joke much moreso than any other character, and no matter how much people want to cling to the idea that anyone who states this has to be a “typical whinny Spikefan who just cries abuse all the time” in order to try and undermine its validity, it won’t change the fact that it is, also, a lie. I don’t like SPike any more than other characters, nor do I care about whether he ends up in that position or not. I just pointed out what we SEE in this show.

I did read your post correctly; you said that a previous comment mentioned “1-2 episodes” where Spike wasn’t just the butt of a joke, and I pointed out the comment actually listed 4 episodes, and expanded on that by also listing episodes where Spike didn’t appear or just barely appeared. Singling out “Spikeabuse” in my last sentence was actually an attempt to call out those who were beating that particular drum, but since you’re so focused on it, I’ll also dispute that Spike’s been the butt of jokes in “pretty much every episode”. Do we need to list all 16 season 4 episodes, and Spike’s role in each?
Background Pony #24E3
@Background Pony #ABCE
I said very clearly WHY you were lying.
You’re just ignoring it, which is a different thing.
Also, saying someone is lying isn’t a personal attack. Go learn the difference.
At this point, its like you’re just edging me to sink to your level and start attacking you, since you apparently don’t know what a personal attack is.

@Starswirl
Im neither a Spike fan, nor whinning about Spikeabuse (which is what they’re usually hated for). I merely pointed out how if someone says every character gets as much as shit as him, then he is lying because that’s not true. Said person got butthurt. The end.

Quite honestly, I think you simply misunderstood the whole situation, so Im not going to judge you or anything. Just, please, do try to pay a little attention next time. i believe you know better than to just assume the latest post in a thread HAS to agree with what the majority of thread and/or the pic in question is complaining about, really.
Background Pony #53DF
@Background Pony #3021
>calls someone a liar without backing it up
>cries about personal attacks

Welp, so much for having a discussion with you. I think everybody can see what you are.

Good day.

Read a post correctly before trying to be a smartass, otherwise it makes you look bad.
I don’t care who you were arguing with before, but if you’re going to reply to me, then reply to what I said. I never said he’s been absued on every episode, I said he’s either been abused OR in the butt of a joke in pretty much every episode, even when it was just put there for nothing but giggles, which is true. Your reply should’ve be directed to someone who claims there’s Spikeabuse on every episode, and not just to the first post you could find. Paying a little more attention would’ve really helped you there.

@Background Pony #ABCE
…
Don’t even pretend yo knew what you were talking about, please.
You needed someone to defend you and count for you, and then you have the gall to start with the personal attacks? You’re really going to sink that low?

And yes, you were lying.
Don’t even try to divert the attention from the part of your post I was replying to when I said it was a lie (or is reading this difficult for you?). You said Spike gets as much shit as every other character, which simply isn’t true no matter how you want to see it, or how much poeple’s whinning bothers you. Thus, it was a big, fat lie.
Background Pony #9058
@Background Pony #3021
Four episodes, actually. Then there’s three (DD, FttF, RF) in which Spike didn’t appear at all, and five (B!, PAP, TaC, PP, FV) in which he barely appeared. So claims of rampant Spikeabuse are based on “Rarity Takes Manehattan”, “Simple Ways”, “Twilight Time”, and “It Ain’t Easy Being Breezies”, as well as a couple of slapstick gags in “Princess Twilight Sparkle”.
Background Pony #24E3
@Background Pony #ABCE
>Lists 1-2 episodes where Spike wasn’the butt of a joke or got abused for no reason.
>Ignores all other episodes where it happened, which is basically the rest of the season.
>Thinks he has a point.

It IS annoying when people whine too much about Spikeabuse, I agree.
You know what is much more annoying though? When someone attempts to undermine said whining by claiming that “he gets as much abuse as everyone else”.

There’s whining, and then there’s lying.
Background Pony #53DF
@Background Pony #A68F
Oh really? Every one? You sure you want to claim that?

Even when he was Twilight’s “extremely competent assistant” in Princess Twilight 1? Or when he saved her in 2 by getting her friends? Sure, he was hurt there. So was Twilight.
Compared to what happened to everyone else, he got off fairly lightly in Castle Mane-ia.
Power Ponies, full stop.

So, what was that about every scene?
