I can see how it tickles, it’s just quite kinkier this way. Feathers are “traditionally” used for tickling with their soft part in most media.

Actually, you’re wrong. There are two types of tickling, light and hard, and the “pointy” type works better on some than the “feathery” one (it depends on the person). So using the other end is perfectly logical.
