Considering the last post here was 13 months ago, no.
So you don’t consider Wild Fire to be a canon character, then? She started out as Sibsy’s OC.
Nope!
OC that made it into the show with the pull of the right strings is still an OC.
Not an oc. It’s actually a canon pony.
Cool.
Uh, I’m pretty sure SP wasn’t talking about tags in the context of “there’s passive aggressive bitching going on in the tags themselves”, but in the context of “he’s a mod and kindasorta gets to be one of the ones who decide what the tag definitions mean”.
Nobody’s going on tagging wars, people have just been calling it out as an OC in the comments. Stop being so mad.
It IS an OC.
It was an OC until it actually appeared in an episode, now it’s a canon Background Pony instead of an OC. This ain’t difficult.
I don’t give a toss about what classifications you like to have in your head regarding what is OC and what is canon. As far as this board is concerned, ie what we care about for tagging, if it’s on the show it’s a canon character an not an OC. We’re not going to be classing things as both because that’s just stupid.
@The Smiling Pony
You should find out what “canon” and “OC” mean before making a fool of yourself.
The reason you guys are fighting so stupidly is because you are all wrong!..or all right. This pony IS and oc. This pony IS canon. It is both, just like Wildfire. So BG pony was totally right in what he said, and Smiling Pony is just mad.
But guys this is all semantics. We should focus on the important thing! That this pony is just a tiny bit off but still too close to the generic looking black and red OCs. The colours do not work in MLP AT ALL.
HOWEVER! Just imagining how it’d feel to see my OC in the show is enough for me to know that the animator did a very lovely thing. Overall the character did not take away from the episode at all. It just made one person VERY HAPPY.
I honestly don’t even know what you’re on about anymore, nothing you’re saying is making any sense. What’s a “Dark Boltedge”, anyway?
@DanielTepesKraus
I hope whoever it was didn’t get in too much trouble for it. Everyone who worked on the show should have done it all at once, made a Take Your Kids’ OCs To Work Day, that would have been brilliant. I want an episode where they go somewhere and every pony is some coloration that isn’t “normal” in Equestria, get more pintos and appaloosas and dapple greys in there and an occasional black or dark blue/purple/grey pony who isn’t a villain.
And we’ll fap to r34 of it.
Win;win.
“Alright son/daughter! I’m going to put your OC in the show! But… I kind of have to completely change the design because a handful of perfect strangers think the colors clash.”
Uh, yeah. Given the choice between pleasing some people online and doing something cool for my child, yeah. Throw the black and yellow OC in, see my child happy, and to hell with the whiners online.
Whatever you say, /b/ro. There’s really no need to white knight Dark Boltedge though, she’s not real.
Every character is an OC or derivative of one
What in the world are you bitching and whining about, then? You just invalidated your own basic argument.
Every character is an OC or derivative of one.
Your argument of semantics is pointless. Would you rather I just call it a more descriptive term like “Forced insert donutsteel trash”?
If the character design hadn’t been so dissonant, nobody but the kid in question would have ever noticed and it would indeed have been pretty awesome, but the look of it is so unlike anypony around it that it stands out like a sore frog. It turned what would otherwise have been a neat shoutout and interesting bit of trivia into a poor art design decision. Which is aggravating as hell, because dammit, there should always have been enough dark colored pones in the show that this Elevated OC wouldn’t have stood out in the first place. I was totally awesomed by the character when I saw it in the episode because I thought the show was finally going to be including more dark colors in the BP pallette, and was terribly disappointed to find out that not only was it a one-time thing, but that it had pissed off The Suits and resulted in additional art restrictions.
@Background Pony #22AA
It doesn’t matter that it started as an OC– so did Wildfire– it was animated into the show as a Background Pony, which means it’s no longer an OC but an official part of canon; the farthest you could stretch it is Ascended Fanon or Fan-Submitted Content.
I agree that it wasn’t a terribly good idea, but it ain’t OC any more.
If I worked on a show like this, and my kid had their own fan character of the show, I would go out of my way to put their character in as a cameo. Just so I could sit down beside my kid on the couch, watch the episode with them, and witness the absolute joy on that kid’s face when they saw their character fly across the screen. So I could listen to them cheer, laugh, or even just sit in quiet happiness after seeing that a character they created out of love for a tv show had become a part of that show, if even only for a few seconds.
Now, if anyone out there can do it, tell me why that in any way shape or form is a bad thing.
Yeah.
