It could be odd in the Big Easy (and everywhere else, really). Go and read the book Gumbo Ya-Ya for much more on New Orleans in from 1850-1930; among other things it tells you how in the city’s Irish ghetto, the ‘Irish Channel’, black beat cops were put on patrol because the city’s leadership knew it would pi$$ off the Irish no end. That and the blacks were liked better than the Irish.
I love it!
They wrond Fully intergreated Charkitte or her father don’t care.
And being a Disney animated movie, they couldn’t let things get TOO real.
Kinda depended on where you were. New Orleans had an actually fairly diverse population (which included plenty of mixed-race people of various social classes), which loosened things up a bit in parts of the city.
Still, Tiana’s mom was still a servant. The LaBouffs were just nice people.
Was racism a huge thing in real life, at the time?
new orleans, if i recall correctly.
