I think she would have taken measures to prevent it but alas, these writers are on strict time constraints compared to fans who have all the time in the world to think up better writing solutions.

At least everypony is aware that she’s under control and not being naive about it.
But wouldn’t being an Element require they stay together with their other Elements? Yes what you described could explain the continuity issues, but that it’s not explaining such important things within the comics seems to argue against them meant to have serious continuity with each other.
It’s now apparently added that one, Zecora rhymes cause she wants to and not because of other reasons and two, she came back to Equestria in the last issue of Season 10, so maybe she decided to stay.
You mean Zecora being an Element of Magic?
Wise decision or simply forgot she can use magic? If nothing else is stated then season 10 is still canon.
Zecora was just using her potion skills. This scene was Twilight using her own magic to absorb and thus learn about this magic which turned out corruptive. (Poor move in retrospect, but given the alternative methods were not getting results…)
Did Zecora avoid using magic or is there any page or panel that explicitly retconned that?

Maybe this is different than the kinds of mind control they’ve encountered/countered before? Maybe anti-mind control methods have side effects/limitation that prevent them from being used more often.
They comic creators said they avoid strict continuity between issues, this is proof. (And the problem with Season 10, if it works better without strict continuity worldbulding and major character changes like Zecora run counter to that.)
Too true. I’ve seen enough of Zuul the Terror Dog to understand that as a fact.
