my idea is that the mere IDEA of being the only pony not wearing cloaths in a party where you are supposed to wear clothing (mostly for mares), is understandable to feel exposed.
same when discord with the “blue flu” when he wore a hospital gown and bent down to show where his butt would be, the same idea would apply
they know they don’t use clothes most of the time but the idea of not having cloaths on when you should or exposing yourself while wearing clothes can give off the feeling of showing WAY too much and thus the reaction the ponies have happens.
is weird but i guess ponies’ ideas for what is appropriate is different than to humans on earth

Why does Tia’s swimsuit need a chest piece? Equine mammary glands are on the lower abdomen, so there’s nothing to cover up on the chest
For the same reason, Rarity did:
Either they are a bit different from our equines on Earth, or animators did it because they thought ponies would look cute or funny that way.

This is true, but you glossed over the best and coolest part!
They actually heard the whole plant thing… and thanks to some careful obfuscation from the few people importing cotton back then, leapt to some pretty interesting conclusions.
The Vegetable Lamb of Tartary.
The lamb grows as a fruit of the bush, grazes all it can reach, and then it and the plant dies. Sprouting the cotton as seed wrappings.
They’re pretty dang obscure mythological critters, but they pop up now and then. Like in Odin’s Sphere, for instance. Always had a soft spot for them, they’re such… down to earth critters by folklore standards. Pun unintended.
