Glim (fanfic) has this too, in a way. In fact their respective families extend to the point that most of Equestria has a bit of Pinkie Pie in them.

I can totally imagine a G5 in which Twi is the ruler of Equestria (Celestia/luna died in an epic battle or died peacefully or moved on to the eternal realm or something like that) and that the offspring of Twi as well as her friends had after a couple hundred years taken over their duties as element bearers.

In all seriousness, as much as seeing everyone you care about die would suck, seeing their children (and their children, etc.) would more than make up for it.
