Anyone else notice that Pinkie hasn’t mentioned Spike’s purpose at all in The Last Laugh?
Makes me wonder if they’re gonna talk about his purpose in a future episode? After all, in Sweet and Smoky, Ember did say to Spike, “Aren’t you supposed to be doing… whatever you do at Twilight’s school?”

Well hopefully one day we’ll get a novel or comic that brings this up.
You make a strong point.
Truthfully, he embodies most of the elements; Loyalty (other than his one identity crisis, he’s remained loyal to the ponies), generosity (he loves to give and do things for others), kindness (he strives to do things to see others be happy), honesty (it may be blunt at times when he is honest, but he also is terrible at lying), laughter (somewhat inadvertently at times but he is often entertaining to those around him when they feel glum).
The only one he doesn’t have a wrangle on is Magic, for obvious reasons.
Spike would handle it full-time. Aside from his semi-ambassador positions, of course.
Tell that to the season premiere when Starlight did it! :P

THAT episode will fall apart very quickly if they make the flaw that I think they are going to make.
Do Spike and Gabby meet and become friends through the episode, or is it pre-established that they are friends as soon as the episode starts? No one seems able to answer this.

Right, that’s his main character. Spike is actually largely to blame for people liking Starlight since his interactions with her basically were a re-casting of Spike back into his original role instead of “lol dumb clueless boy”.
I’m pretty sure they’re saving him for something, otherwise, why are they calling him a “main character” anyway? It’s not over till it’s over! So far, Spike’s been showing alota positive action this season, showing his very best side of him, developing in new ways, and has the third most appearances this season which is more than he usually has! The trailer proves it, and one of the China episodes proves it (I won’t say which one)!
I want to see something positive, believe me, I’d love to be proven wrong, but all of S8’s and S9’s Spike focused episodes have done these things and it’s been very depressing.
Sounds too cynical even by the show’s standards.

I think spike needs a better purpose than working for twilight like try to start your own life in the crystal empire🤔😀
Spike’s purpose is to keep Twilight from going off the deep end as she is prone to do. If Twilight’s going to rule all of Equestria, Equestria better hope Spike’s there beside her.
