Except in all likelihood what is being felt as “weight” is the fact that it is taking more magic to lift that object do to how heavy it is and thus the strain as they are having to us and control more of their magic.
 
We have seen them take hot things directly from the ovens with magic without a single issue as well as one who BAKED a cake in her magic which would have involved a lot of heat that did not harm them.

Haptic feedback. Presumably, a unicorn levitating an object “feels” the weight of the object she’s lifting. It stands to reason then, that that other physical sensations are transmitted, including heat/cold. So, a unicorn levitating a hot object would “feel” its heat the same way as if she were physically touching it. If it’s hot enough, it could even be painful.

Not all ponies have telekinesis.

ummmm…. what is Magic again? when a pony levitates objects there’s no “physical presence” and thus its a form of telekinisis.
 
if a pony levitates a tray that just came out of the oven and is so hot you’ll burn yourself phsycially touching it, then technically she wouldn’t burn herself since she isn’t in physical contact with it, therefore Heat isnt transferred onto her.
 
the only “burn” he/she might feel is the heat radiating off the tray.

Magic is convenient.

Fingered creatures like griffons, hippogriffs, and dragons can drink with those too. So, while probably impractical for ponies, I can see why they still exist.
