Um, Lyra and Bon Bon are married.
But they weren’t wrong at the time. Facts change over time, and accuracy is based on what was true at the time of the claims, not what became true after. They are a couple now, but they weren’t at the time.
Edited
That would implying admitting they were wrong and people don’t do that nowadays.
At the time of this image, they were just friends.
Try saying that now after recent episodes :3
I can not tell you how wrong that statement is without taking up too much time.
So, instead, I will say this.
Lyra and Bon Bon are just best friends. They have a close relationship, yes. But they are just best friends.
Lofty and Holiday are a actual couple.
Edited
Agreed.
Dude your favourite ship not being canon does not mean the show has bad writing
The only way a writer can establish canon is by actually WRITING what that canon is supposed to be.
They failed to do that here.
You must only watch things with terrible writing. Which as we have confirmed, if Lyra and BonBon are not a couple, then this show had bad writing. So that fits.
There’s this rules called “show, don’t tell” which is where a writer with some level of skill shows you something happening. They show you two mares being affectionate, giving gifts on valentines day, hugging with hearts around them. If this is above their ability to do, they instead give no indication of a relationship at all and then say “They’re a couple”. And that’s what we have here. A couple that we only know are a couple because the author told us.
That’s terrible. So call me delusional, but in my world FiM has good writing. In my world we already have gay ponies.
That is exactly why I said Lyra and Bon Bon were not a couple. Not only because I’ve met people who were just friends, but also because I didn’t want to get my hopes up for nothing.
They didn’t act like they were in a relationship while Lyra and Bon Bon do act like they are in a relationship.
Just hype for nothing
Except that they couldn’t say it in-show because of the fact that certain types of people would get upset.
But, here’s the thing, the writers who wrote the script are the ones who make what’s Canon and what’s not. If you can’t accept that, that’s your problem.
I guess I have to repeat myself: “Word of God” means nothing. If there’s nothing shown in-episode to indicate they’re a lesbian couple, then there is no evidence to support that they’re a lesbian couple. IT DOES NOT MATTER what the writers say outside the episode. If they meant what they said, they would’ve said it in-episode.
Ah. Okay.
Well, for me anyway, I don’t really see this as forced, though.
For me, forced would imply that they are just there for no reason at all.
And here’s where that argument is dead in the water for me as well.
Comics were not really even acknowledged until Season 7, which by then Season 9 was already confirmed as the last season.
So they were going all out at that point, starting all the way back at Season 7.
Did you not read the comics?
They first appeared with a different design in the comics, so it’s not really forced if they were already introduced in some material prior.
It feels forced because it’s the last season.
It wasn’t the most poorly written, but it’s suddenly come out of the blue… in the last season.
To me it speaks forced.
Because the LyraBon and Rarijack moments/teasings could easily be seen as examples of teenage girl best friends.
While these two are grown adults who are actually a couple as stated by the writers. And these two aren’t added in to appease fans. They were added in to add more to the story.
@PastelBacon
Why should homosexual couples be left out of children’s shows?
Also, it didn’t feel forced to me, it felt well-written and they didn’t ruin the story.
Edited
Personally, I just feel something like this should have been left alone cause of this being a show for kids(technically.)
It just came off as a bit pretentious and forced.
A few things lately have felt that way, probably cause they just wanna do this and that cause of the show concluding soon.
Mostly the later. (as per usual)
I agree.
The reason for it not being said in the episode is obvious, they wanted to avoid issues with people that would complain about it.
