Then the episode failed, especially when she accosts AJ of being a fool for believing in it in her youth.
She just comes off as mean.
There was method to the two old mares’ madness. The reason they got AB spun up about “The Great Seedling” was to get AJ involved back in the childhood games she had given up on after her parents’ death. AJ was growing up into a joyless workaholic, and this was their way of letting her recapture a bit of her lost childhood.
It would have been fine if she was either 100% for or against the existence of the great seedling, but when she was for-it, she should have been mournful that AJ tried so hard to catch it but “stopped believing” after she fell into her trap.
Instead, she treats it like she suddenly is glad AJ was humiliated for believing in such a silly thing.
Yeah, that sounded to me like a childhood trauma.
They came off being totally evil. I mean, seeing Big Mac and AJ being run ragged and harassed regardless of which side of the fence they were on soured me.
Like, if Goldie was sympathetic about AJ’s attempts to catch the great seedling in her youth, I’d have appreciated it more, but she outright laughs at the fact AJ not only failed to catch it, but was stuck in one of her traps for hours.
This entire episode was Granny Smith and Goldie Delicious screwing with Applejack’s head. I loved it.
Also Goldie Delicious: “Remember when Applejack got stuck in a hole because she was stupid enough to believe in The Great Seedling? Lol good times.”
