She’s very lucky she even got anything at all. It’s acknowledge by the staff that they really didn’t think Sunset belonged in the show at all. Jim Miller came out in an interview saying that they never had any plans of incorporating Sunset into the show, saying the belongs in EqG only. This is even further proven in the leaks.
Count yourself lucky that you got something instead of nothing.

See, NOW I can accept her as canon, even if it was done in the laziest way possible. They were still so reluctant to have her properly identified as canon that they waited until they could put an unacknowledged still image of her in the background during a song in the last episode, instead of the so many better opportunities through the series. It’s the equivalent of having both feet out the door and just yelling back “BYTHEWAYSHESCANONBYYYYYYYYE!”
But she’s there in clear view, regardless of how stupid, so whatever!
Pretty much that. The general rule for media is ‘Show, don’t Tell’.
Problem is ‘showing’ can be done wrong, it needs acknowledgement by the characters to say “Yes, this is happening.”. The ‘Tell’ aspect that shouldnt be done is referring to the show runners just saying it’s happening without it actually being acknowledged in show, that comes off as lazy. Flash appearing in S4 could have easily canonized EQG if Twilight looked at him and blushed again, that tells us “Oh, she’s blushing because of how she first met him in EQG, those events must’ve happened then.”
If they don’t want to verbally acknowledge EQG, they can redesign the treecastle library background to have the mirror in there so they can have a new background over and over again. I’d hardly think Twilight would just continue putting the mirror away, she knows there’s some shit happening in the EQG world, and as the last movie showed, Sunset could suddenly cone charging through at any moment needing help.

The writers can say one thing but their actions show another. They could have easily made a reference to EqG during the s7 finale but rather they treated the sirens as generic monsters and nothing more. Contrast that to the movie which was quickly made canon in the showm. It’s clear their intention is that EqG is it’s own separate thing and isn’t a thing in FiM. Those tweets just read like fan pandering.
I’m with you here. Somehow taking a cameo to mean Sunset is part of the FiM canon is a big stretch. As you said it’s that flash sentry cameo tier.

your current filter.Yes, but the way they showed the sirens had about as much impact as the way they showed Flash. They didn’t even acknowledge them verbally, so it comes off more as a nod to EQG. Like they knew they had this backstory that was told about Starswirl in that movie and the animators said ”Hey, we should animate that instead of some other random monsters.”
That episode (and so many others at this point) had so many opportunities to confirm EQG canon, but they didn’t for some reason. Just have Twilight say ”Like the mirror?” or something when they were talking about portals, and boom, confirmed canon. That flashback could have had them fighting anything and it would have had the exact same impact. Not to mention the backstory told in RR kinda snubs the other pillars , you’d think they’d have gotten a mention with how the sirens got dealt with instead of just “Starswirl saved the world in getting rid of them by himself.” so it does just seem more like they chose to do an animated easter egg.
I mean I want EQG to be canon, cause there’s no reason it shouldn’t be, but they seem to want to dance around the idea more than just outright have the show confirm it.
Anyone who believes Season 4 made her canon aren’t the brightest bunch.
It was confirmed there was simply a pony Flash Sentry.
Completely different than the fact it showed The Sirens being sent to the world of EQG in Season 7.
But hey, just cause I pointed something out started a silly argument.

I don’t see how it’s wrong. She’s has never been mentioned by the show nor any of the official material regarding the show like the Art of Equestria book. In fact Confalone said she’s not going to be on the show thus we can scratch that out. She pretty much isn’t a thing on the show and anything regarding her can be easily discarded. Season 7 didn’t prove anything other than there being some generic monsters meanwhile the movies was quickly canonized by the show.
Well one could say the people thinking she is are desperate enough to believe it they’ll take anything.
And in that case, she was as early as season 4.
