Facepalming myself at the irony of that comment. Despite being proven wrong about Discord, I was still proven right by how pointless and bad that twist was.
@Background Pony #B631
That poor headcanon baiting at it finest, just like when everyone last year kept saying that Cozy was Chrysalis. It’s not ever going to happen. Grogar being Discord would be the ultimate slap in the face to fans on the original series who have been waiting since the very beginning to see the best villain finally show himself.
Even then it would add absolutely nothing to the story at all what so ever. In fact, the most it would do is take away from the ending.
Unless you can find a screencap proving otherwise, that is incorrect
Said the one who clearly didn’t watch the episode.
And the claim that you made earlier that Shining Armor said he was attacking the Crystal Empire for “weeks” was never said by anyone, in the episode. It was a day or two, tops.
Pure assumptions on both sides since we are never told how long he was out there.
Just because the Elements failed to deal with someone in one case doesn’t mean they’re more “durable” than the other guy (and this is assuming Sombra didn’t use anything like a decoy of some sort, when he got “blasted” the first time).
As you said yourself, if it didn’t show it, then it didn’t happen. Sombra never once stated he used any form of decoy and since he’s been shown to gloat it clear he would brag about a simple ploy. However all we get in him getting killed and getting back up. That is shown in the episode, no assumptions at all. There is no way to deny his durability.

It’s funny how you keep adding the extra tidbits about assumptions when you are the only one in this entire thread throwing out assumptions. Everything I’ve spoke of in shown in the episode.
until say, he’s exhausted.
Sombra is undead, ergo no exhaustion. Discord is a literal god, ergo no exhaustion. A battle of exhaustion would be totally pointless to both of them, that why Discord spends the battle trying to convince the main six to use their powers properly because only they because the plot demands it can defeat Sombra.
Secondly, Sombra has been shown to teleport over massive distances, escaping a portal is child’s play, especailly since he’s been shown multiple times to phase through objects. This was not a battle over strength or wit, this was a battle of patience and plot. The plot needed him to die to main six and that what happened, heck the mere fact that Discord is the one trying to convince the six of this is basically the writers outright admitting they wrote themselves into a corner with this villain.
Sombra is broken, much like Discord and since fans were seemingly so against reforming recently they couldn’t give Sombra a better send-off, so they just kicked him to the curve with easily the worst defeat in the entire series. Yes, it makes no sense to you, but that what happened. You don’t need to keep lying to yourself to make the episode sound better in your head.
ALso note that Sombra is not annoyed either, in fact, in his clash with Discord Sombra actually looks like he’s having fun.
Unless you can find a screencap proving otherwise, that is incorrect. Sombra only ever had a smile on his face fighting him because he was about to shoot at Fluttershy to get Discord’s guard down. He seemed rather pissed that Discord was nonchalantly nullifying anything he pulled to me, no fun to be found before he heard Discord say that, unless I missed something? It looked like he was gritting his teeth out of frustration to me.

Just because the Elements failed to deal with someone in one case doesn’t mean they’re more “durable” than the other guy (and this is assuming Sombra didn’t use anything like a decoy of some sort, when he got “blasted” the first time).
Even if Discord (by some miracle) couldn’t kill Sombra off, all he’d have to do is say, open a portal under Sombra’s feet into some other dimension (which Discord can do and there’s no evidence Sombra can) and he’s done, and that’s assuming he couldn’t simply remove Sombra’s horn from his head like he did with Twilight (possibly repeatedly, assuming it grows back outside of his shadow form) until say, he’s exhausted.
With the wording of “Discord and Sombra blast to each other at the end could have gone on endlessly and neither would have a winner hence the reason Discord urged them to end this,” you made it sound like he had any reason to doubt his ability to win whatsoever, like it was a stalemated situation in DBZ or something along those lines.
Edited to add: You’re probably not gonna let go of a headcanon with no basis in canon though, so why am I bothering?
Dude, Discord was effortlessly snapping away Sombra’s attacks without even looking at him at times. That isn’t the attitude of someone who’s putting significant effort into it.
We all knew Discord was playing around, duh. I never brought up once that Sombra was stronger then him, simply that the elements could take down both of them yet Sombra was clearly shown to get back afterward if anything this doesn’t Sombra is stronger, simply more durable.
ALso note that Sombra is not annoyed either, in fact, in his clash with Discord Sombra actually looks like he’s having fun. The only moment he starts to panic, in fact the only moment in the entire two parter is when his powers suddenly stop working against the main six and they only do that because of the plot demands he has to die.
There’s no evidence that Celestia and Luna had to resort to the Elements when they defeated him the first time, for that matter, whereas they needed them for Discord, which indicates that he can’t even outclass Celestia and Luna together, while Discord does.
I never said they used it on Sombra. The main six did in the premiere and Sombra shook it off like nothing.
WATCH THE EPISODE and please ATTEMPT TO READ ALL THE PREVIOUS COMMENTs before you claim anything, especially on an argument that’s long dead.
Dude, Discord was effortlessly snapping away Sombra’s attacks without even looking at him at times. That isn’t the attitude of someone who’s putting significant effort into it.
The only reason Sombra “beat” him was because Discord intentionally manipulated Sombra into trying to attack Fluttershy (by saying “she’s my favorite”), so he could “sacrifice” himself for her.
Sombra is just a powerful unicorn (or something pretty close to it) supercharged on dark magic, while Discord is by default the most powerful character in the show, barring maybe Grogar (who is also presumably much stronger than Sombra).
There’s no evidence that Celestia and Luna had to resort to the Elements when they defeated him the first time, for that matter, whereas they needed them for Discord, which indicates that he can’t even outclass Celestia and Luna together, while Discord does.
It’s also noteworthy how Celestia was still fighting in the Sombra timeline, without Luna, which if Sombra outclassed Discord, that concept is so ludicrously inconsistent with that course of events, it’s insane.
@Volcel
You haven’t proved me wrong once. You’re the one that started with this headcannon stuff. And what are you talking about by me forcing, I’m not forcing anything on anyone to listen to me. You can leave this thread anytime, or even flat out ignore me and continue talking to others on this thread.
@Background Pony #5D3C
Why do you care about forcing your headcanons onto anyone? Nobody but you believe it so your idea is not even a theory since literally at least two people need to share it.
@Volcel
Ha, hs. You’re funny. You haven’t proved me wrong once so instead, you accuse me of headcanon. Plot twist, most episode analysis is headcanon. Do you even read your own words?
@Background Pony #5D3C
“Discord and Sombra blast to each other at the end could have gone on endlessly and neither would have a winner hence the reason Discord urged them to end this.”
WHAT? This is just your headcanon. Discord could end this before Sombra even conquered Crystal Empire. Thats what literally Rartiy states at the end of the episode. He only deflected the laser beams because he wanted Mane6 to beat him to learn the lesson. Thats the whole purpose of this whole episode. You need to start watching the episode or read any review or episode analysis before you start make up headcanons and then force them as facts.
@Volcel
Wow, you watched the episode finally to purely get pass my argument. Oh wait, you didn’t defeat my argument at all. Because you clearly didn’t pay attention. Sombra came back after a full-on blast from the Elements, Discord did not. Discord and Sombra blast to each other at the end could have gone on endlessly and neither would have a winner hence the reason Discord urged them to end this.
Finally, Rarity said that Sombra survived the Element blast. An after the fact is void unless we see proof. We never got proof.
@Background Pony #5D3C
What are you talking about? Rarity herself said at the end that DIscord could end Sombra whetever he want even before Mane6 reached Crystal Empire. You should be the one who should rewatch the episode. Sombra was nothing but a Tutorial villain. Both Grogar and Discord knew about it and that he will fall. Grogar used him as an example of why they need to work together and Discord used him as a test to make Twilight and the rest believe in themselves instead depending on artifacts and Discord. Thats all there is to it. Sombra is basically the least important villain beside Pony of Shadows and Storm King.
@Volcel
Wow, and here I thought you actually watch the episode. Here, a spoiler Discord didn’t resurrect him at all, heck he didn’t even Sombra was back until the end of the episode. So why are you lying to my face?
@Background Pony #5D3C
nah, he would get defeated if Mane6 had elements of harmony in S3 and now he was nothing but a test dummy set up by Discord to check if Twilight can fight without him in the future
@PonyPon
Because with him still around there would be no reason to fear those others at all. Sombra was the far greater threat so with him gone they get leveled up purely on the fact they are the last ones standing.
@Volcel
Riight? So weak that he survived multiple death and killed the Tree of Harmony. Face it the only reason he is dead now purely for the plot. They needed the most durable villain out of the way to give the next villains a better threat level. Especailly Grogar.
Plus your thinking is completely false since in S3 very first episode it was stated by Shining Armor that Sombra had been attacking the shield Cadence put up for several weeks.
Sombra is stubborn, and prideful, but certainly not weak.
Jesus SOmbra, you are so weak, in the last 9seasons (around couple of years in the show) you lived for like 1 day total and thats counting your time in S3 and S9
Facepalming myself at the irony of that comment. Despite being proven wrong about Discord, I was still proven right by how pointless and bad that twist was.
For him

Grogar might be discord in disguise
Said the one who clearly didn’t watch the episode.
