I always use gender-neutral terms until I hear from somebody what term they prefer, or see enough hints to assume one way or another.

Personally, I check for social cues, and I try to use gender neutral terms. Even if someone is using a female avatar they may not be presenting as female, and vice versa.
there are many men who have female ocs and only female ocs, and vice versa, even including quite the ammount of nsfw images of said ocs
so, its normal to assume that everyone on the innenet is a male until proven the opposite, its safer that way in a sense, and even then, how do we know that they arent transexual or something?
