Just a pony version of a Displacer Beast from D&D. I actually have D&D in mind a lot of times when making weird species so I figured it was about time to reference them directly :D

more importantly, they are called displacer beasts because what you see is actually an illusion; an actual displacer beast is always a foot or so offset from where it appears to be.

It’s a monstrosity, but it was a fey in the past, when it used rome feywild (place of elves, chaotic nature, emotion and all the good zaz) until they were hunted and captured by the Unseelie court (the edgy elves resounding in shadowfell, opposite of feywild, where everything is gloomy, out to kill you and edgy in general, cool place really) and they were bred selectively to enhance their abilities, which made them monstrosities. Monstrosities in D&D are creature that are purposefully made, something nature didn’t make. And now they are super predators, sometimes used as pets and hunting companions by those who can tame them.
 
In wild, they not only hunt for food they hunt for sport, they enjoy the thrill of the hunt and play with their prey. It’s fey nature gives it ability to displace light making it appear several feet away from it’s actual location. “…A displaces beast’s eyes glow with an awful malevolence that persists even in death.” real cuties i gotta tell ya. They can hunt in small packs, duos but they like to go solo most of the time.
