“Pictured above are the two covers of an insert that was included with some G.I.Joe vehicles and playsets sold in late 1990 and 1991. One side featured mail-in offers for one of Hasbro’s toylines, G.I.Joe. The other side featured mail-in offers for another Hasbro toyline, My Little Pony.”

It’s a pretty standard thing; most of the advertising that features physical toys– including box art– is shot from grey prototypes with all the colors airbrushed on, and it’s about as impossible to replicate the transparency/refractivity indexes of translucent plastic with paint as it is for human skin.
Darn false advertising.
Hasbro has had official crossovers before.
