it had some sad moments and many losses sure, but i dont see how that should dictate how good or bad a year was. just focus on you, not say it was bad cuz some bad moments that aren’t about you

Oh, and in case anypony else reads what I said and comes to the idea that I’m just telling you to ‘be positive and stop whining’, let me clarify something:
The trick isn’t an unrelenting positive mood. That’s just as unhelpful and emotionally stunting as an unrelenting negative mood.
The trick is to take ownership of your feelings. Acknowledge that they are yours, and you feel them for a reason. Then ask yourself honestly: Is this feeling helpful in this moment? Will it solve my problem? Is it right for me to feel this way about this?
And if the answer is no, put it away for now and find an outlet for it elsewhere. Once you own your feelings, you can control them.
That’s how I feel too. I wouldn’t trade some of my worst years because in them I still had bits of positive things throughout them. I feel a lot of things, whether they be positive or negative, helped shaped me into a better person than I was in the past.

This year was quite difficult for me in my private life. But I also made a lot of new friends right here on Derpibooru, and I’m so grateful for that! :3
Could I have done without all the crap in 2018? Obviously.
Would I trade it for any other year? Especially if it meant loosing my new friends?

I think people act this way every New Years Eve. It kinda comes with the package. But overall, I think you’re right. I think there’s no such thing as a “perfect” year and due to so many people having different experiences, people may have had good experiences and/or bad experiences throughout the year. Honestly, I think each year has their own share of upsides and downsides like how you were implying.
Say, those problems you where mad over. Are they fixed now that you shouted “Fuck 2018!!”?

Perhaps instead might I recommend some introspection and self reflection? Ask what you personally could have done to solve them? And if there was nothing you could do, maybe how better you can manage your emotions?
I used to be an emotional mess, in some ways I’m still working through it. And let me tell you, first step to solving it is recognising your own culpability in it, and stop blaming every problem in your life on outside forces.
Especially something as silly as a year. 2018 was a difficult year for me, but time was not conspiring to ruin my year.

When did I say either of those things? I’m pretty sure I implied quite the opposite.
I asked that people stop getting angry at the year. Being enraged over periods of time because things happened in them that made you mad is not at all helpful for anyone.

This reminds of the babbeh bawling at the year 2016. It’s just a category of time, specifically indicating the amount of time it takes for our planet to orbit the sun.
I assure you, 2019 will have plenty of shit in it as well, as will 2020, 2021, 2022 and so on into infinity. Shit happens. It is one of the four inevitable constants of life:
Stop getting angry at periods of time just because number 2 seems to be highlighted during that point. As @mjangelvortex highlights for us, a really bad year for one pony can be a really great year for another. It all depends on the attitude you take towards what happens to you. You are the arbiter of how much something gets to you.
So when you get angry at a year, all that tells me is that this year you head less control over your emotions. Shit happens all the time. People you know die every year. Stop getting angry at the year, FFS. XP

I hate to sound like a complete cynic but a lot of celebrities die every year.
