I mean, it was also pretty easy to lose an eye at sea in the Age Of Sail, and a sailor on a commercial or naval vessel was a lot more likely to get cashiered back to land than an independent contractor was, so statistically pirates would be more likely to be wearing eyepatches.
Pirates don’t wear the eyepatch because they lost an eye, that’s a common misconception, it’s actually to help them see in the dark by keeping the eye sensitive to light. Because The lower decks in boats were typically quite dark.

It’s a fictional character, pretend her personality is whatever you want it to be.
There was hardly a personality to begin with, essentially a blank slate, so they used Carrot Bun here and gave her the personality they needed for this scene. That’s it.
Pony Carrot Bun can still be whatever you want her to be.
