The bite-grip is just close to the end, from grip to end seems not even Sunnys neck length.(Except maybe for the third panel if the end is resting on the ground and shes not keeping it in the air).
 
As for the wingspan, an unobstructed wing maybe, but the wingblades design obviously severely limits the ability to fully stretch the wing out, i mean it looks like just set length pieces with joints allowing for some movement/flexing. If they were the full length of the wing they couldnt actually be flexed and there wouldnt be a point for the joints i imagine?
 
Though in all of this, the perspective is different even in panel to panel so were just arguing over what we want to see i guess? xD
 
Also, for a good chunk of history(generally speaking not in all cases always) the polearm was the main weapon of a of your average soldier, with an axe,sword or other shorter weapon being a sidearm to be used if the enemy got past the effective range of the polearm (i mean the shaft itself will do you little good in most situations heh).

the bite grip is partway up the pole for balance, shortening its range, and the blade catcher’s partway down the spear head too. but mostly pegasusjedi’s pegasus ponies have huge wings, like twice their body length at full extension. so… yeah, it’s pretty much madness to try to out maneuver a pegasus anyway. if sunny fought with a net or a bolas, she might’ve stood a chance, but without killing pepper’s momentum…
 
pepper’s gonna get her ass handed to her once somepony figures out her weaknesses, but sunny, I’d advise to use polearms like they’re designed: once to break the charge, then drop it and switch to your real weapon.
 
of course… sunny’s real weapon is friendship, and as the ponies watching the fight show, pepper doesn’t stand a chance against a weapon like that.

With the partisan (the name of this specific weapon) being around a ponys length (assuming since they were about a humans height or more in real life) i dont really see her being able to both keep the weapon jammed with her one wing and strike Sunlight with the other like the story says.
 
But meh, will be interesting to see where this goes, with the nasty attitude Peppermint has shes pretty much a fragging waiting to happen heh.

why’re they angry just because pepper beat her? it’d make sense if pepper was mean, but pepper hasn’t done anything “mean” that we’ve seen, since she told off chattermare for being an insensitive princess.
 
might be good to show pepper popping somepony’s ball or something, because ponies couldn’t possibly be happy, unless they didn’t care about her suffering. or maybe lashing out at ponies for caring about her suffering, shielding her emotions with scorn calling them worthless or something. pepper’s being brutal here, but not insulting. chattermare asked for it, and she’d have to be pretty stupid if she didn’t learn she was gonna get her ass kicked after seeing it happen 12 times…
