To be perfectly honest, I really don’t like English, at least after I had discovered how simple and efficient Japanese is. X3

The languages of all first-rate civilizations are all about the same in terms of complexity. (A case could be made that this is true of all human languages excluding constructed languages, with apparent exceptions like Pirahã only seeming to be simpler due to limited research.) English orthography is notably bad due to its historical legacy of taking foreign words without adapting the spelling, but if I could single out one language for having a worse writing system, it would be Japanese, with three complete writing systems, two of which are almost entirely redundant. Not picking on Japanese here, it’s a fine language and does have a lot to like about it, but it’s not meaningfully simpler than English, it just has its complexity in different places. (Being a fairly agglutinative language is helpful for seeming superficially “simpler” in some respects, but if you dig deeper, you will find complexity elsewhere…)
