Yeah, the writers really have been fucking up in the worldbuilding aspect, haven’t they.
 
I mean, by all rights, Equestria should be the most powerful nation on the planet, at least economically. What with controlling the sun and moon, as well as FACTORY PRODUCING THE WEATHER. And said economic might should on some level translate to military security.
 
But alas, apparently a bunch of air pirates can curbstomp Canterlot, so…

That would explain how Pinkie has the unlimited resources for all her zany party ideas. She gets a stipend from her family. Also, hard work, family ethic and an Amish-like lifestyle are the only reason the Pies don’t live it up in the life of luxury.
