Well, kind of sorta. We’re only half there. Fluttershy’s likely to be a Unicorn instead of an Earth Pony. But at least we’ve got Pinkie down.
 
Also the leaks is partially why I wanted to upload these. I was talking to someone a while back who was complaining about the idea of Pinkie being a Pegasus. I told them that I didn’t think it was a big deal because she was going to be one in G4 had things panned out differently. And they pretty much just ignored what I had to say and told me, “No. That was Surprise, not Pinkie Pie.”

I think they only used the Bon Bon name on a few occasions like Trading Cards, Blind Bags and the Gameloft app  
If i remember well, the first time she had a brushable, (from the Cutie Mark magic line to be specific) they named her as Sweetie Drops

Not to mention there was some legal hurdles involving some of the names and designs. That’s why for a while Bon Bon was called Sweetie Drops in the toyline for a while.

Yeah, i know how much Faust wanted G1 ponies in FiM, too bad that only Applejack and Spike (And Bon Bon in some way or Tirek i guess) managed to appear in the show, It could have been a nice tribute to the G1 include its characters in the reboot, there are some characters i would loved to make a comeback in FiM, but the truth is that G3 was more popular than G1 around these years, only adult audience used to remember them, and after the tremendous failure of G3.5, should assume that they wanted to give a new modern and friendly look to the franchise

The flowers she has on her cutie mark here remind me of Jacob’s Ladder flowers (they looked like that in the Animal Crossing games) whereas Posey’s usual cutie mark tends to be tulips.
 
As for Pinkie, Lauren Faust did want to use Surprise from G1 for a similar role. But since this show was coming off of G3, Hasbro requested that she include Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash in the show in some manner since those two were kind of the “big stars” of G3 so to speak. So she changed Surprise into Pinkie Pie and Firefly into Rainbow Dash.
 
I’m guessing she really liked the idea of Pinkie being a Pegasus before ultimately switching her over to an Earth Pony later on in development.

Im noticing that the Posey’s cutiemark is slightly different, It looks like kind of flowers coming from the same root instead of being separated  
Also, the pegasus Pinkie makes me think that in some point of the development they wanted them to remain of the same species despite not being Surprise anymore
