I remember my first year of watching the show, and just a couple of episodes in, the show solidified that mares who go to the equivalent of Victoria’s Secret leave the shop wearing saddles. It was in this moment, I realized that ponies with clothes are KINKY.
It seems mostly to be a device that separates the settings from each other. Give each place a unique characteristic by putting the ponies in hats, or gowns, as appropriate.
Everywhere in (canon) Equestria is nudist to a degree, just because you have a teeny tiny jacket or something that resembles a tuxedo on your chest doesn’t mean that the entire other half of your body isn’t nude.
Fully clothed pones all the way.
haha yeah totally a clever gag based on the older generations and not just based on someone else’s depiction of a naked tempest, yeah definitely, heheh…
They’re two of the few nudist colonies in Equestria.
Or possibly the only two… have there been any other cities or towns in the show where most of the ponies didn’t wear clothes?
(Canterlot was like this too during the movie but I’m not going to count that)

…which is exactly why I like drawing them so much.
To be honest though, ponies with clothes is a bit of a kink of mine…. It makes them cuter and really speaks for their personalities.
