Actually, Prussia has very interesting history - and out out of German nations, it was the closest to Russia geographically.
 
The thing is, there are also, historically, two Prussias - Old Prussia, settled by the tribes of Old Prussians - who were not Germanic, but Balts - an ethno-linguistic group closer to Slavs - and the latter German Prussians who were German settles who replaced the largely killed of, and scattered Old Prussians (with some presumably those coming from Germanized Old Prussians).
 
Here is more on the history of Prussia , which is quite interesting, especially that it basically started out as a crusader state of the Teutonic Knights.
 
Karl Marx though, was obviously a citizen of the (greatly expanded by then) German Prussia, although he was actually Jewish/from a Jewish family, although his father took on a more German identity (ie changed his name from Heschel Levi, to Heinrich Marx, converted to Lutheranism etc,)
