Spike the Dragon was born in Canterlot from an egg used to test Twilight’s magickal prowess. She and her family have since raised him as the youngest sibling of their family. The young dragon stuck to Twilight like glue as she studied in the capital city. He has a knack for taking dictation as he would often write letters for the then Unicorn for Celestia.
His time in Ponyville was spent learning to use his mystical flames to forge weapons after the Curse of Eternal Night. The Dragon is actually well studied as well as a quick study, so his smithing skills grew exponentially from starting. Like Big Mac, his weapons were of higher quality than any of the shops for villages they would visit, but not some of the foes the Warriors would face. Unlike Big Mac however, his dragonfire would enchant any arm he creates to increase its potency. If the weapon he makes would be plain silver, it would have a faint green tint. It was far into their journey when Spike could prevent the greenish look on request.
Spike is the only Dragon he knows. It’s a simple fact that he has accepted for many years until he was suddenly called upon his kind to find a successor to the ruler of all dragonkind. Spike’s natural friendliness from being raised by ponies led to an alliance with Ember, a Dragon Gladiator. Through their cooperation, they were able to complete the race wide competition, and in the end, Spike surrendered his victory to make Ember the sole successor to her race. With this friendship, an alliance between the Dragons and Ponies was secured.
The Crystal Empire honors Spike for his untimely assistance in saving the Empire and began to train as warriors that fight alongside dragons: Dragoons. He is often quick to donate any shed scales to help make Dragonmail used for the Knights. Spike is not known for his strength or prowess in battle, so he cannot help Cadence and the Crystal Ponies learning their techniques. However, they’ve said time and time again that his approval of their training is more than enough motivation to continue.
Dragon Cross-Pein: Steel melted into an ingot by the hottest flames Spike could muster. The rarity of the material is negligible, so even though it’s made in enchanted flames, it’s still plain. However, the hammer is something Spike made himself, so he finds it very important.
Rarity Apron - A thick, heat resistant apron made for smithing that was crafted by Rarity as a birthday gift for Spike. He actually wears it only when talking to customers, but when he’s smithing, his natural fire resistance of a dragon is more than enough protection. He just wants everyone to see his devotion.
