That’s a really harsh post-episode strip, so it may be better if I explain myself.
First of all, of course I don’t think the writers are as cynical as Twilight last line. That’s for the joke.
I really enjoyed this episode. In fact, I think I laughed at every joke. I thought all the characters were really well written, the song was cool and some parts of the lesson were good (you can’t please everyone).
What’s really bothering me is how every critic is magically explained by “it’s in-character”. No, it’s not. We had lots and lots of episodes of idiot balls and OOC. Not every episode has to be perfect and it’s okay to do mistakes, but to deny them is not. Especially when you end up with “Eyh, kids still like it and they are our true audience so it’s fine if we’re losing some grown-up fans”.
Well that’s a vastly oversimplified take.
For those who watch Avengers 2 will know this joke
It might be helpful to remember that that specific tweet was in response to bronies who were insulting and harassing one of the show’s storyboard artists and her fiance/husband (not sure of the exact timeframe of that tweet).
That was great. And about time, too. Nopony’d had a decent nervous breakdown in a while.
But that wasn’t what they ended on. It wasn’t about grown up fans vs. kids, if that was the case then they wouldn’t have had a bunch of kids causing problems as well. Plus what they ended on were a variety of morals about how criticisms and arguments are worth it provided someone out there is getting something positive out of it, that they can’t control how others think or feel but they can control how they let it effect them, etc.

Odd, to me I thought they were showing most of the critics as being ponies from other areas (aside from obvious ones and ones that Pinkie called out for having known her for years).
Regardless, it wouldn’t be the first time that a mob mentality or the needs of the episode turned a bunch of Ponyville residents into jerks.
The one where he said “Fuck em, we don’t the show for them. we make it for all the little girls who love it” and somehow people took it as little girls don’t deserve good writing or something.

what tweet was that?
No argument there
you and i clearly had very different reactions to the episode hehe
I have to disagree with “understand and hear our criticisms” part of your statement.
It feel more like them throwing a temper tantrum and screaming “stop being so mean!”
Also, if that was “fan-service” to you, you must be in some very abusive fandoms.
That, or into the BDSM scene. (Joking)
they’re doing a great job with storytelling and it’s fan-service episodes like this and the 100th with the bg ponies and the wedding that show that the writers and showrunners are really in-touch with the fandom
