My favorite part was when Applejack murdered a wizard by kicking his ass off a bottomless cliff, then fired crystal shards into the eyeballs of the Ponies the wizard had enslaved.

G1 had a shadow monster who literally ATE peoples shadows and drained their energy, while blackmailing a pony to help him do so.
It had a witch who stole ponies youth by luring them into an illusory theme park with her bird slave, and draining the magic from the unicorns while sucking the LITERAL youth from the ponies, making them look like old mares.
G1 had a penguin who sought to freeze the entire world so his penguin legions would be the only things that lived on it, freezing a young duck when he came to ask why his pond was frozen.
Call G1 corny all you want, but it was 10 times as ballsy as G4 was in the end.
