Actually, it is not a retinopathy. It is a visual perception problem called Irlen Syndrome. It is similar to Dyslexia in which a person suffering from it cannot read properly, among other symptoms. Special glasses can be used to help the person, or pony in case.

That’s kind of missing the point of the comic though. I wrote and drew this for a charity fundraiser for a girl who needs special glasses to overcome a visual-perceptual disorder, so we (the guy leading the fundraising and me) came up with a simple story showing an act of generosity improving someone’s life. Turning it into a longer story would’ve greatly increased the amount of work required and delayed the project, and could have distracted from the central message.
Sure. As one who had terrible vision, my sunglasses had to be prescription as well.
