You know, it’s entirily possible that Rainbow herself doesn’t remember beating them too focused on winning and being embarrased by her parents. We’re talking around 10 or more years ago. Tell me, if someone looked really similar to how they did ten years ago, but you only met them a few times for a race, would you remember them?
 
Most people won’t unless they force themselves too. Hell, I can remember a few names from high school but I couldn’t pick most of them out of crowd now…and a child’s memory is worse.

It could be that the animators/storyboarders/whoever thought fans would enjoy seeing familiar ponies in this flashback. And it even could be that the target audience did.

They were older, so their careers advanced sooner & they accrued notable deeds before Dash did. She may have beaten them in the past, but what they had done later in life Rainbow found admirable.
