I’ll have to look back at that episode, haven’t watched it in years.  
Sense Twilight is one of the few who actually uses teleportation, it’s probably a more powerful or complex spell.
 
Surprised it took Sweetie Belle so long to learn magic. Foals younger then her are seen using it.

not true. she used magic to help her fashion show in suited for success. Plus during Tireks invasion, we see a random unicorn just use a beam spell to attempt to stop him. Of course, being Tirek, it does nothing. Beams seem to be a common place thing, just not many ponies use it because of the fact that there isn’t much of a reason to use it. We see the telekinesis a lot more because of the fact that it is an extensively useful spell. However I am glad that someone does remember the flashlight spell she used. Teleportation on the other hand is something that is very debatable. (Even if she is my favorite) I don’t think she is capable of teleportation.

I think this is the only time Rarity’s ever used it, and it was a dream, so it’s debatable if she can use it. Only other unicorn magic she’s ever seen using is telekinesis, or using her horn as a flashlight. Most unicorns seem unable to do more powerful spells then that, or don’t bother learning it seems.

the laser spell is the mose basic of combat magic of equestria! all unicorn can learn it but more skill unicorn is skillful is will be more powerful and more he/she can use it! but less skillful is will be less powerful he/she can less use it! twilight is one of the more powerful unicorn/alicorn and she very powerful and can use it a lot! trixie is too weak to use the laser magic! she face a evil and run from it!

I always liked the fact that our refined fashionista is the first to resort to smash ‘n’ bash. The lazers were cool this time but I think it should stay a dream world thing (or maybe a special powerup, like with elements of harmony or rainbow power.) Let Twilight fight like Twilight, and Rarity, well… [points down at gif]

Yeah, I think her magic beams here are more due to it being a dream. :3

personally, I’d prefer if they had her do stuff more like her EQG self or her radiance self than lasers; Creativity based combat magic is a better fit for her, and more unique.

Y’know, most unicorns use magic just for telekinesis, so it’s nice to see Rarity use her’s for something besides picking up objects, or locating gems.

That last part is indeed well documented.

We know that we can fight physically.

If you do believe the comics to be canon, then she in fact can make her magic strong enough to battle. In the first comic, she hits three changlings with one blast. Even if you don’t think the comic canon, she actively used her magic here rather than physically assaulting the dresses. In a dream, you’re more likely to use skills your comfortable with rather than resorting to things that you don’t have.
