My parents were on point here, neither were shy or dismissive about it or gave me silly answers. Gave me multiple age-appropriate sex-ed books, talked with me, etc.
…but without going into too much detail that I am still too embarrassed to talk about even anonymously over the internet decades later, shenanigans like the above will absolutely still happen no matter which way you go about teaching a kid because kids are dumb :P
No, this is why children SHOULD be taught sex. Because if they are given non-answers, then situations like the above will happen. If they are given the actual answer in a clinical and detached way, they will find it gross until puberty. But by that time they are old enough to want it anyway, so it’s truly the best option. Just explain how to prevent pregnancy, what happens if you don’t, and tell them it could ruin their life if they are not careful. You know, the truth so they don’t do something stupid. Make sure it’s THEIR fault if they do.
