New Headcanon. Twilight Sparkle is a vault dweller, Starlight Glimmer is the daughter of the over see’er and about 4 to 5 Sunset Shimmers take the role of Butch and his gang.  
After about 10 years of underground lesbian shenanigans the 5 Sunset Shimmers get over their biker gang phase and become vault renowned hairdressers.  
Twilight Sparkle still leaves the vault, but no one notices her leave.  
At some point rad roaches become the new fad in vault pets.
