I can’t believe the white star line got defunct 86 years ago.
about twenty three ships sank. only one white star line ship is left in a dry dock. in all of white star line recorded history.
the total cost of life: 3084 people.
and 1,400 mules on another ship.
and various other pets.
(could have made a mistake or miscounted the total number of ships that did sink. or total number of people. just a quick estimate of the entire white starline history)
like I said. did not help the company reputation.
Edited because: (could have made a mistake)
Coming from a company that first, cut costs by thinning the proportions of the steel (not the best possible quality steel at the time mind you) used in the ship’s construction and then used cheaper, weaker, iron rivets in a large percentage of the plates.
Also, buying just enough coal to get to New York. (There was a coal miners strike at the time, so that was uncontrollable) but they could have bought more and/or cancel a few smaller voyages from their other ships and use their coal instead of forcing the captain to maintain top speed and course to avoid running out of fuel in the middle of the ocean.
Yeah, it’s not like there wasn’t eye witnesses telling the press that the company had sent a ship with a two weeks old or longer raging coal bunker fire out to sea regardless and that the company was trying to cover this all up.
there was a real band that played on. and while a lot of family’s went and thanked there family’s. white stare line just sent them a bill for the suits and instruments (note that even then. it was expensive as fuck) needless to say that did not help the company reputation. also fun fact. some asshole slipped and turned the lights off on the ship as he was rising up.
I have to agree on A Night to Remember‘s superiority to Titanic. They didn’t lard it down with some nonsensical romance.
Ok 😀
@Takengrin Endmmar
It was a reference to both of the movies about Titanic actually, Titanic (1997) and A Night to Remember (1958). The latter of which I honestly feel is an even better bit of cinema, almost a masterpiece. ^^
Mane says Fiddlesticks. Cutie Mark says Symphony. WHO IS DAAAAAAAAAAT
I told myself I wouldn’t cry again.
