I understand that, but still gives off some unfortunate implications.
If it helps, the EqG thing is technically his alternate-universe counterpart.
To be fair, he hasn’t really come off as that vein & arrogant (traits his wife & daughter have/had) in the show prior. (Maybe a li’l, but not as much here.) Seems like the comic, and the fourth EqG movie are kinda flanderizing him into a typical unappealing rich snob character.
Which is a shame, ‘cause prior the show portrayed him as pretty nice to the Apple family, (he even frowned when his daughter was laughing at Granny Smith) and he also helped fight against the Tantabus. I kinda prefered the idea that he was nicer then his wife to kinda hint where Tiara’s hidden “nicer/vulnerable” side comes from. (Which helps her heel-face turn seem more believable.)
While I hope they don’t make him into a total jerk, he should do something in-story to make it obvious why he shouldn’t have been elected. Unless they want to make him the new Mayor of Ponyville, which is fine, though the position seems rather like the booby prize.
If it’s no real change to have Filthy as Mayor, why should the readers care whether or not he remains Mayor?
Still I have to remember this is only the first issue, and there’s two issues of story to come yet and they can do a lot with it.
The worst he’s done is…be kind of uncaring towards Rarity’s offering her assistance? And be a bit of a showboat like above?
It’s actually a rather pleasant portrayal all things considered.
Nothing.
The assumption that he’s the villain is what’s wrong.
Show-off.
Well, yes. Artists always think money is bad, except when it’s their money.
CMC got their marks, Tiara learned to be a better pone, and such. So I’d say plenty did, though we have yet to see how this will effect her role in the show now. Chantel Strand (her voice) did state she recorded dialogue for her, so apparently she’ll be more then a BG pony.
Oh, and there was Fancy Pants a rich classy pony whom wasn’t portrayed as evil. Even Fleur kinda complimented Rarity.
Speaking of which, Rarity might actually be the most “well off” of the Mane 6, (got 3 store franchises now, and her fancy house “A pony with expensive tastes, I see”) and she’s still quite sweet natured, and cares more about the quality of her business then money.
Still, you do have a point, the show & most shows tend to portray upper-crust folk as bad, but regardless there are a few exceptions. Though, I’m not to keen on how Filthy Rich is being portrayed lately, a character whom wasn’t shown with any bad qualities before as such in the comic, and upcoming fourth EqG movie. Seems like abit Flanderization.
Plus I kinda liked the idea that Tiara has one nice parent, and one …less nice one where she gets both her bad & good qualities from, which kinda helps her heel-face-turn make more sense.
Though, this one brief moment in said episode kinda made him look bad too.

And what has become of that?
To be fair, they did reform Tiara, and made her a bit more sympathetic. Not to mention her li’l sad song was adorable.
@MadVillan
At least it would be in line with how the series treats well off people.
I do know one of the issues by Christina Rice took 2 whole years to make for some reason. I assume there was a long waiting period between finished script and starting the illustration in that particular odd case.
Another fact I know: Siege of the Crystal Empire’s script was completed a year before the final issue came out (so that would mean 8 months before the first issue came out).
Writing might not take long, but the art might not always be scheduled to be done immediately after it. 3 months might be possible for some issues, but there seems to be a large variance.

Either that, or even if he does win, he’ll apparently screw everything up, make everyone mad, have some kinda anvilicious message/moral that people like him can’t govern, or something, then he has to turn the job back over to Mayor Mare.
@Background Pony #C730
Stories written for the show are, as it takes a year to write, storyboard, voice act, and animate an entire 22-minute episode.
That’s not the case for comics, as they don’t take nearly as long to make. On average about 3 months.
Hopefully this won’t be as blatant of a “good vs. evil” setup than the older comic was.
You know, like how airing a Christmas themed episode during Winter is meant to be seasonal.
That said there was a tweet saying that these issues wouldn’t contain any allusions to the election. I’m skeptical since it’d be so easy to do so, but I’m going to believe it.
I doubt the comic story was written that long ago. So yes expect this to be “trendy”.

Trump started running for office 19 months ago.
I don’t think you understand just how long the US election cycle is. It’s usually about two years in all.
