True, true, I forgot myself, but she’s either really good at hiding her fear, or she’s in a pretty rational state in the preview. Either way, I should wait until the episode airs.
 
Better worded version: It doesn’t justify her actions, no, but it does give us a reason: she was panicked, and not at all in the right state of mind. Starlight, on the other hand, looks pretty calm, even proud of her work here

We don’t even know what the context is for Starlight, it’s too early too be making that call.

That’s the thing about fear: it’s nearly always ridiculous, exaggerated and/or unfounded. Fear thrives in the unknown. Twilight may have been Celestia’s student for at least a decade, but it’s clearly shown that she’s never been tardy, and is overall the perfect student. She wouldn’t know exactly what Celestia would do if she was late because she has never been late.
 
It doesn’t justify her actions, no, but it does give her a much better reason than Starlight.

That’s the main problem I have with the show. It’s almost always glossed over as a minor little thing. Also, you forgot Cadence, whose first scene involves casting a love spell on two random ponies on the street, showing that it’s apparently government-sponsored, at least sometimes.

Now that you mention it, I guess that’s why I like Starlight so much: she reminds me of me. Just like Starlight, I too tend to try to use people or get people to do stuff for me, no matter what it is, even when they are busy doing other stuff. And also just like her, even though I care about others, I only tend to care about others until after I’ve realized how much I’ve actually hurted them. As for why the Remane 5 would still want to be friends with Starlight, people fuck up. Like, big time. Like, one time, I remember one of my classmates telling me about how a friend of hers committed suicide over One Direction. And instead of expressing my condolences, I said her friend was stupid to kill herself over One Direction. In response to what I just said, the classmate started crying. Like, literal tears came streaming down her face. I felt like shit after it happened. I felt like the biggest piece of shit on the face of the earth. And yet, after all that and me apologizing 20 different times, she still remained my friend. You know why? Because she knows that there was no malicious intent with what I said. And honestly, the same can be applied to Starlight: even though she keeps fucking up and fucking up, there is absolutely no malicious intent behind her actions, which is why the remane five still remain friends with her.

Second, Twilight Sparkle’s fear was completely ridiculous, exaggerated and unfounded. You’d think that after being her personal student for like at least a decade, she’d know that her well meaning, benevolent teacher would no way in hell send her back to Magic Kindergarten for being late on a single paper because no friendship problems existed that week.
 
Her ridiculous fear is not an excuse in any shape or form and what she did was just as bad if not worse than this clip.

No not really, not to me anyways. She seemed more upset about Trixie and was more “I forgive you for betraying me” Not “I understood where you were coming from” It wasn’t until Twilight said “Hey Trixie’s not bad” did she do anything for her. IMO regardless.

I’m sorry that this may sound rude, but that is completely untrue. She does care about others. If she didn’t, she wouldn’t have helped Trixie in no second prances.

Well her paranoia came from knowing how teachers could send their students back a grade if they failed them. And since Magic Kindergarden was a Nightmare for her (something ANYONE who was bullied in their childhood could know), she went the extra mile just to avoid being there once again.  
Like I said, Fear took the best of her.

Wait. I think it’s canon that Starlight learned her magic at Celestia’s School for Supervillains Gifted Unicorns, right? Why the heck would they be teaching mind control magic there?
 
What’s next, an ex-student who mastered demonic conjurations? Hmm, maybe they keep summoning Discord every time he’s trying to do something nice with Fluttershy and the Mane Six have to get her to show some respect for his private time – wait, did I just come up with an episode?
